My work explores the intersections of memory, identity, and the spaces we inhabit, using ceramics and mixed media to create pieces that evoke both the personal and the universal. Through sculptural forms, intricate linework, and organic textures, I aim to capture fleeting moments and emotions, inviting viewers to find reflections of their own experiences in the details.
Theatrical like old movie sets which lay abandoned amongst hanging and swaying creatures and strange illuminating lights are seen throughout my artwork as I seek to piece back the thrown away and neglected objects to make sense of my past, using sculpture, installations, and performance to work through similar ideas obsessively. As I recreate an old memory, or a future desire- the process and meditative state I’m in as I work are as much part of the work as the finished piece. Making for me is an acknowledgement of my body being visible and functions as a way for me to be more viable through apparitions and magic manifestations of ghosts and psychological monsters that are informed from conflicts and contrasts such as trauma/recovery, connectedness/disconnection and pain/pleasure. Inventiveness, repetition and using my hands and body in my work are important elements as they illustrate the interwovenness of my body with the world around us. I like to challenge the idea of the natural connected body, instead thinking about the body as a cyborg with futuristic concepts and with an integration of the environment around us. My art practice is rooted in futuristic and psychological writings of Carl Jung, Donna Hathaway, Judith Butler and Michael Foucault, applying fluid concepts of identity and embodiment to my own life in its various manifestations. I use light, sound and movement through layering as the way to connect all the parts of my work, with its own intersectionality working as a microcosm of a larger psychological network.
