A question of mourning

Ceramic, moss, various mixed materials, rope

The sense of something moving without moving must be watched carefully.  Moss creeps across the form, its quiet, deliberate growth a stark contrast to the frenetic pace of the world.  This moss covered piece grew from a need to be grounded in an out- of-control world and to make connections and answer questions in a time that seems to be void of magic.  A Question of Mourning emerged from a longing to feel anchored amidst chaos and to find connections. It calls for a moment of introspection, evoking the quiet of a dark forest, where the dense moss absorbs sound.

Embedded on the pendulum are unseen layers—text, stories, photographs, and natural imprints—that references histories below the surface. Each layer represents a narrative, a memory, grounding the piece in a conversation with nature and memory.
