Through the trees, 2019

Wood, metal, photographic transparencies, images from a walk

Through The Trees is a suspended maple structure at eye level, composed of transparent photographic slides that show multiple perspectives. Taken on a quiet walk through Prospect Park in 2015 while very pregnant, the images capture a layered memory of that peaceful day. From the front, the slides merge into a single composite image of trees, creating a delicate, almost ethereal view. As viewers move alongside the piece, each photograph separates, revealing a series of fragmented, shifting frames. The structure allows viewers to see through the images, creating a dream-like effect that feels both serene and unsettling—an exploration of memory that mirrors the intricacy of the trees themselves.
